My Take

Google Drive has taken my teaching to a new level. Drive allows for collaboration unlike any other tool I have used. It makes doing work for students and teachers easier by storing everything in the cloud and giving users the ability to access their work from anywhere and on any device. There are no more hurdles for teachers to get over with kids such as "my printer was out of ink", "I lost my flash drive", "I didn't get the worksheet" and so on. Everything is accessible 24/7 from anywhere. It is my goal to become a paperless classroom this year and Google Drive can make that possible.

How I Use It

There are six components that are apart of Drive. Documents allows students to type written assignments, Spreadsheets allows students to create databases and graphs, Presentation allows students to create interactive presentations on any topic, Forms allows students to take/give surveys and to give formative feedback to teachers, Drawings allow students to create custom images, and Folders allows students to stay organized. The most powerful part of drive is the Share button. With this button students can collaborate and create new content together without being in the same room. It has amazed me how my students use this in the classroom.

The clincher here is that this service is FREE to schools. A school can apply and get two free domains. We currently have a student and a staff domain in order to give certain permissions to staff and students.

Please watch this video is my words have not convinced you to become a Google school!
