Multimedia resources to inspire and help us be better people!

Like I said, a picture is worth a 1000 words. I can talk to my students all day about what life is like in other parts of the world and they just don't get it. The resources on this site help my students see the similarities and the differences between themselves and other teens/people. I like that Global Oneness does not shy away from tough topics like being a refugee and what that might mean to a teenager who is trying to graduate from high school, or a community that is dealing with flooding due to Global Warming, etc. The videos and the photographs are well done and the stories that accompany them are well done. The lessons are well thought out and can easily be adjusted to fit the needs of the students and their age level. It is a great supplement to any social studies or science classroom.

Honestly, the most important contribution to my classroom from GO Project products is that they INSPIRE my students. Bringing in that outside voice can be so refreshing (especially at the end of a long MI winter!). There is a liminal quality to the videos, photoessays and curricular guide that is approachable at many levels. I came to the conversation cards with a little bit of skepticism, but I have seen that my students WANT to be asked these tender questions. I have had very excellent communications with the good folks at GO Project; I have a sense that they are eager and delighted to be consulted about this work. I think this resource is really at the beginning of what they can do. I'm grateful for the resources on the GO Project site.

Geographer, Alexander B. Murphy says in his book Geography: Why it Matters, “Knowing about something is a prerequisite to caring about it.” Global Oneness Project resources help teachers and ultimately students better understand our world and our place in it. If nothing else, more teachers and students who know something about the world’s rich diversity of peoples and communities and about the current crisis facing our planet might mean a populous who cares about and ultimately acts upon a better tomorrow. This is a meaningful resource for any Social Science, Science, or ELA course and I am sure applicable to many others as well.
