My Take

This is a very cool site for student drill and practice. The site claims, "For each answer you get right, we donate 10 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program." According to numerous sources, including the United Nations, the site is legitimate. How cool is that? There are multiple choice quizzes for every subject with multiple difficulty levels, and teachers can create a "group" for each class to keep track of student progress. However, for the more casual user, simply go to the site, pick a subject and a quiz, and start playing. The running total for the number of grains of rice that you've "donated" is shown right beside the questions. There is also ample information on how students can help fight hunger at home and around the world. This is a great site to combine learning with cummunity service!

How I Use It

I give all of my tests on the computer and as students complete their tests I like to send them to free rice while waiting for everyone to finish. After they earn a predetermined amount on the assigned topic, I allow them "free play", where they can pick whatever subject they want. My students love this site!
