My Take
I had never heard of Freckle before stumbling upon it through Common Sense. After reading through reviews and details. I was immediately in love and had to start right away! I started with just math and ELA, having students take a pretest for fractions and assigning reading inference work. I then began exploring the social studies lessons. I love the options, resources, and engagement the social studies lessons provide, particularly the “Global Communities” section.
How I Use It
I used Freckle mainly to differentiate my math instruction. All students are given videos that explain concepts they individually need more help with. Not only does Freckle give rich questions, but it gives students a chance to try again and learn the concept. My higher students love it because they are challenged and taught concepts that they are ready for.
I also use the social studies lessons to make social studies more engaging. I have recently started using the ELA activities too, but I wish I could better integrate more than one concept.
