My Take

Folger Shakespeare Library appears passionate about sharing Shakespeare's work with Americans of all ages and abilities. As a teaching tool, this site can be best used by teachers looking for lesson plans, play ideas, and resources to help make Shakespeare more fun and accessible to younger readers. The K-12 Teachers section offers videos, resources by mail, lesson plans and more. Teachers who are struggling with engaging students with Shakespeare can find valuable aids through this site.

How I Use It

Middle school students often struggle with the difficult language and sometimes adult-level content of Shakespeare's plays, and the Folger Shakespeare Library website can help bridge the gap between their reading ability and experiences and those portrayed in Shakespeare's writing. Teachers can access videos, lessons, and even collections of materials supporting the teaching of a whole popular play. I also subscribe to their Bard Notes e-newsletters to keep updated with new lesson plans, videos and other materials.
