Full featured presentation app with multiple uses in a classroom
Community Review for Explain Everything
My Take
When it comes to presentation tools on an iPad, Explain Everything contains features that mimic full size virtual whiteboards while allowing portability at a fraction of the cost (currently $2.99 in App Store). Explain Everything allows for creation of lessons to present to class, add to a blended or flipped resource site, or for students to demonstrate knowledge by creating their own presentation. Text, drawing, video, pictures, and even a laser pointer are included in the app that allows for exporting to video, PDF, email, or other repository sites or apps. The app gives an easy outlet to create mini lessons as needed to reinforce complex content. The only current downside is that when trying to add picture in picture video, the process is not intuitive.
How I Use It
I use this app for small lessons to export to video hosting sites for students to access later to refresh a process. During problem solving activities, it excels at allowing annotation or modeling. The video feature to allow students to see and hear my voice adds to the app plus it can assist those with lower literacy levels. I allowed students to build presentations as a peer tutoring exercise, but they became infatuated with features and not content creation, but I will still pursue that route in the future.
