My Take

Explain Everything is exactly what it say, it allows the user to explain information they know or have learned. I started using this app to flip my middle school classroom and found it to be the best tool for creating videos for my students. When trying to push myself above the line in the SAMR model, I realized that students creating their own material and using that to teach others, is a very powerful tool in my classroom.

How I Use It

Explain Everything is Excellent! I can take my Keynote presentations or images and import them directly into Explain Everything. Once in the app, I able able to use the laser pointer, circle words, and even include a video imbedded in as I teach my content and create a video. For example, the last video I created on the distributive property was teaching the concept of the property. While in the app, I took a video of me modeling the concept with manipulatives. My screencast became an instructional video with an imbedded video and was very easy!
The most powerful way to use this tool is to have students create their own. Sometimes it is a simple problem for individuals to solve and we watch the screencasts to check the class' work. Other times we use screencasts to replace tests (alternative assessment) and it provides me a different insight into their thinking, and a lot of times we use it as a final product for a project where they can show their learning. I always encourage my students to use images from the internet (copyright free), pictures from the camera roll, and screenshots from other apps to enhance their final products. My students love it!
