My Take

I use DropBox primarily to collaborate with other teachers, and share my own lesson plans. However, I have begun to use it in my honors Geometry classroom, and it is great because it really encourages student-centered work. The students love doing anything on the computer, and DropBox allows them to share their work with me and others, without time consuming practices such as saving to a USB drive.

How I Use It

I use DropBox to have Geometry students save their work on Geometer's Sketchpad. They complete a task on Sketchpad, save to the desktop of the school computer they are working on, then go to Dropbox.com, log in to the DropBox I made specifically for this class, and save their work right there. This lets me see it anytime I want on my home or work computer, and is ideal because our student school computers often delete saved work once logged on (reset to factory settings, etc.). At first, it was difficult to teach the students the whole process of uploading to DropBox. What helped was having a set of specific instructions written out by the computers. Once they got the hang of it, things went much more smoothly. I recently had them complete part of a test on Sketchpad, and they saved to DropBox for me to grade. This worked really well. In the future, I am going to put comments right on their Sketchpad work, save back to DropBox, and have them look at it again to see their mistakes.
