My Take

Dropbox is a great place to store and share documents in the Cloud. With the service being free, it's great for teachers to share documents w/o having to take the time to print everything out! It also serves as a great backup for your files!

There are Free, Pro, and Business plans available. The Free version starts the user off with 2 GB of space. A user can add 500 MB per referral up to 18 GB! I've found that I haven't had to purchase anything yet!

The other reason I find it useful is that I can get to my data anytime and anywhere via their mobile sites, apps, and the web! If I need to work on lesson plans or reports, I can still go on that weekend getaway and work on the documents. When I come back to work/school on Monday morning, the documents are synced and ready to go!

I also use it sometimes when I need to get to a document but I don't have access to my district's servers where the document in located. Dropbox serves as my own cloud storage service so that I'm not having to deal w/ VPN issues!

How I Use It

I train teachers in how to use Dropbox every year! Each year, teachers love it!

Recently a group of educators throughout our region began creating a new K-12 Educational Technology Integration Curriculum Guide. The committee consists of people that do not work in the same district and must be able to work and share documents without having to meet in person and/or email back and forth contently. We began to use shared Dropbox folders so that all of us could work on and share documents back and forth!

I also use it to store and share photos with teachers and principals when working on presentations or for publicity. Again, the privacy feature is great and I can control who sees what!

I think the best part about Dropbox is that I don't have to worry about having my phone, iPad, or any other device break and thus lose my content! I backup my documents and photos to Dropbox so that I always have it stored in a safe location!

If you're a teacher that needs to collaborate with a group of teachers or even your students, using Dropbox with shared folders/documents will help you stay organized and transform the way you work!
