My Take

I really enjoyed the characters and the fact that the students could get involved in the decision making process. It allowed students to apply what they learned in class in real life situations and they really enjoyed using it. My critique would be to make the scenarios more detailed and "gameify" them by having students collect vocabulary words along the way, then quiz them at the end to reinforce the skills. Overall, it is a great addition to the curriculum, I would like to see it further developed because the students are very engaged.

How I Use It

I use the common sense curriculum for digital citizenship in its entirety for my 6th grade class. I used the digital compass as a way to "wrap up" one of the units. It was simple for the kids to make a user name and log in. I think that the students went through the scenarios much more quickly than I expected. Originally, I only wanted them to cover one or two, but they finished within 15 minutes, so they began to explore other topics. The next time I use the digital compass, I will make sure to supplement it with more questions or another activity that can be used alongside the experience.
