I do think it helps them by forcing them to read but in all reality, its awful. I personally think commonlit is just a replacement for teachers by making them not prep at all and letting the kids truly learn.

When I first discovered Commonlit I liked how easy it was to assign articles and the wide variety of options. But after a month of using it, my kids have shown no progress whatsoever. Their practice test averages have stayed the EXACT same. I am beyond disappointed and unimpressed. Not to mention I am unimpressed with Commonlit's lack of professionalism. ReadTheory gives me whole in-depth progress reports weekly while Commonlit doesn't even give me monthly progress reports. It also doesn't give an explanation when my kids get a question wrong, unlike ReadTheory which gives thorough paragraphs in explanation. I am completely done with Commonlit.

CommonLit is a good resource for grammar, punctuation, and language. It starts by letting students pick what topics they are interested in (books, music, TV they liked) and bases the readings and questions on those topics. Students will then read an excerpt from the story or CommonLit will use character names to ask questions or make students correct and find what is wrong within the excerpt. They can click through options and pick which one is best for them. When they get a question wrong, CommonLit will ask a similar question but in a different format just to try and make the students understand the question or encourage them to not give up.
