My Take
I am new to computer science and this is where I am going to begin with my students in September. There is currently no computer science curriculum for elementary schools in NYC so this is great place for me to start. I introduced it to my third grade class last year and it was a huge success. I will be teaching grades k-5, and there are courses and lessons for all levels.
How I Use It
With computer science becoming the new ELA in elementary schools, teachers are not sure how to begin integrating it into their classrooms. This is a great place to start. For educators and students that are new to coding, its so easy and engaging to start building code with the colorful blocks. The videos and lesson plans included are so teacher and student friendly. Teachers should go through the courses on their own, and then act as a facilitator as their students progress through at their own pace. Don't have technology in your classroom? No worries, they have "unplugged" activities that do not require a device so teachers can still introduce coding concepts without being plugged in. Students progress is tracked and assessments are also embedded in the courses.
