My Take

I loved code.org for the purposes of introducing coding. I did take some time before I taught the lessons to go in and try the tutorials myself, which helped me answer questions that student shad. This site is so engaging for students and has created a passion for coding in several! I think with the simplicity of the tutorials, I was able to learn quickly and the students found instant success. This will serve as a platform for other coding activities in the future.

How I Use It

I completed my first "Hour of Code" with grades 1-6 this school year. I was able to use code.org's site with grades 2-6. I used some of their set up videos to engage the students and briefly explain what coding is. I had students complete the Minecraft, Frozen, or Star Wars drag and drop tutorial. I found that some students had completed coding activities before, so I challenged them to complete the tutorials using java. This did take some time.
