My Take

This is an extraordinary tool for teaching basic coding to elementary school students. It's fun, engaging, and FREE.

How I Use It

Code.org offers a wide range of activities that range from an Hour of Code to 4 full coding courses for students ages 4-10+. Course 1 is for ages 4-6
Course 2-3 and 4 are for ages 6+ and should be done in order.
I used course 2 with 3rd graders and they loved it. They learned hands on coding concepts that would otherwise be very difficult to teach: conditionals, debugging, binary code, algorithms, functions, loops, variables...
They also have several shorter activities that also teach coding concepts that students absolutely love because they are based on Minecraft, Star wars, Frozen...
