My Take

Code.org offers a variety of activities and resources for grade levels ranging from early childhood to high school. This is very important when working with multiple grades and students with disabilities. The materials are flexible and can be extended or shortened depending on the classroom situation. The website is building it's content and uses materials that engages all learners, whether they have a strong interest in computer science or are the novice learner.

Code.org is not just focused on computer programing but demonstrates how students can learn math and reasoning skills as well as develop strategies for problem solving.

How I Use It

Code.org was introduced to many classrooms in our district through the Hour of Code activity. Teachers presented the puzzles either through small groups on laptops or mobile devices and others presented to the whole class using an interactive white board. Teachers who wanted to to track their students' work were able to create an account to monitor progress and extend the learning past the hour of code.
