My Take

This is not an educational tool, but rather a helpful and fun behavioral tool. Students love using this site, especially when they get to choose their own "Dojo monsters". It makes it more personal, and through using Class Dojo, I have taught my students about setting goals and working hard to reach the goals.

How I Use It

I use Class DoJo as a behavior support in my gifted/talented classroom. We talk a lot about becoming positive and effective leaders, so I use this tool to encourage and reward positive behavior (or to occasionally correct behavior). Class Dojo provides positive and negative behaviors you can use in your classroom, but you can add any that you specifically want to include; I added "working hard" since I place a high value on that. When a student is displaying a positive behavior, you can give her a Dojo point. Likewise, if they are not meeting your expectations, you can take away a Dojo point (which quickly catches their attention).

I have a system in place, where students have benchmarks where they get a reward (i.e. 5 points - change your own Dojo avatar, 10 points - candy, 15 points - small prize, 20 points - end of year party). The best part about Class Dojo is that you can connect it with students' parents, so they can see what specific behaviors their child displayed. It is very easy to send a quick message to the parent, as well, either about a positive or negative behavior that happened in the classroom.
