Can be useful if students are given guide questions as an anticipatory set.
Community Review for Chem4Kids
My Take
As a teaching tool, it does provide a lot of basic chemistry information in a user friendly, non-intimidating text (though accuracy has been questioned in a few areas). The product needs more interactive components, not just quizzes. If given guided questions or a graphic organizer to complete while using chem4kids, I think it is worth a class period in the computer lab (particularly the periodic table part), though not in a regular or advanced chemistry class. .
How I Use It
I have used this product in low level high school conceptual chemistry/physical science classes and in middle school. It worked when I gave my students a graphic organizer and/or guided questions as an anticipatory set to complete while using the site. Students did not find this particularly exciting; however, for a quick review or to activate prior knowledge, it seemed to work.
