Community Review for BrainPOP
My Take
I enjoy using BrainPop because my students are interested and engaged. The videos are entertaining as well as educational and my students always ask for more! The quizzes are easy to use and provide instant review and evaluation. I like the fact that so many topics are covered in this site which makes it super easy to tie in with any unit we are studying. The only problem I have with BrainPop is the expense. If you don't have school funds to pay for it or the entire school doesn't want to buy in to the program, it can be quite an expense! There are a few videos that are free, but in order to have the full experience you need to be a member. I would recommend this site to any elementary teacher who has the funds to pay for it!
How I Use It
I use the BrainPop site frequently in a variety of ways. I give students the opportunity to watch the videos in order to enhance a unit that we've been studying. Along with the videos, there are interactive games which can be played on the SmartBoard. I use the quiz for each lesson to check for understanding and in order to determine if I need to reteach any part of the lesson. We read the supplemental material that comes with each unit and use it as a springboard for further discussion and research.
