Great for review and reinforcement
Community Review for BrainPOP
My Take
I feel this is a valuable tool in my special education classroom and am fortunate that my district pays for the subscription. I like the ease in finding and using this website. The students are comfortable with this and are always fully engaged in the activities after the videos.
How I Use It
Depending on the topic, I show a Brain Pop video before or after teaching a new concept. If I noticed during teaching that the students were not thoroughly understanding the concept, I will show a video on a previous concept (math) to scaffold, or on the current concept, for further clarification. When I know a concept will be challenging (maybe a literary element) I will show the video before I present the concept, trying to activate some prior knowledge. Working with special needs students, Brain Pop is a great tool to engage them in a lesson. They look forward to the change presentation method, and like the interactive quizzes. They volunteer freely. I don't always find what I'm looking for in isolation, and some times that is exactly what my students need. I definitely liked using the videos for social studies, slope and many math concepts.
