Community Review for BrainPOP
My Take
As a middle school teacher, I once thought that my students would not find BrainPop funny. However, they always do. Year, after year, they find a lot of information in the videos and enjoy watching the videos as well. There is a ton of information packed into a 3-5 min video and the supplemental materials are helpful for homework assignments or video guides.
How I Use It
I use this tool for whole group and small group instruction. Often as the mini lesson when learning a new topic or to spur discussion for students after. The videos go so fast that often we have to watch the videos more than once for students to gather the appropriate information. Often, the work we do after is accompanied by a lab. Each time we watch a BrainPop video (maybe 2-3 times a quarter) we use a graphic organizer to organize student's thoughts and keep them focused on the content to learn. Its a generic organizer that has four boxes: "I heard..I saw.. I thought.. and I questioned.."
