My Take

Both versions of Brainpop, geared toward grades 4 and up, and BrainPop Jr, grades K-3, provide short informal movies meant to engage, entertain and inform students on many topics.

How I Use It

In my classroom I use many of the movies to introduce a topic and use the short quizzes at the end to informally assess students. Likewise, once you have created a log-in you can access their database of lessons that align with state standards.
An added feature is the the GameUp section which links to simulation games that, in some cases, require higher-level thinking and applying knowledge to solve real life situations. These games, here again, are often used after a lesson is taught to provide time for students to collaborate on the topic and I get a chance to listen to students discuss concepts and vocabulary words.
