My Take

BrainPOP has many videos that are categorized in an easy-to-use interface in a wide range of topics: English, math, science, social studies, engineering & tech, health, and arts & music. I like that I can pick topic-related fun and engaging videos that supplement core curricula. Students really like the interactions between the main character, Tim, and his robot, Moby as they explore the topic of a short video lasting 5 to 7 minutes.

How I Use It

I use it to introduce a topic in my science classes. We watch the videos as a whole class. The videos do a good job of using the vocabulary that was just introduced and are really short and to the point and target the learning standards. I sometimes use the quizzes and activities (or adapted activities) that accompany the videos. The students receive reinforcement of core curricula as well as exposure to extension opportunities.
