My Take

I liked the easy of searching for topics and the related topics that show up. The interface is clear and easy for students and me to use. I like the short questions that appear at the side of the video to guide students (sort of like a subheading). There are a broad range of topics. It would help to have Common Core Standards listed with the movie title or the ability to search by Common Core Standard as well as by topic.

How I Use It

I used BrainPop Jr videos as a hook to introduce units of study. BrainPop Jr has videos that match our math, science, social studies, and ELA curriculum so it's quite robust. The videos are usually 3-6 minutes long so a great length as an intro. Usually I showed the video whole class on the whiteboard. I did have students watch on their iPads, but I found it easier to have all students look at the board. That saved time not having to get out headphones and having students start at different times. Plus, by showing it on the whiteboard I could pause as necessary for comments, discussion, and questions. Sometimes we did the quiz as a whole class and sometimes I asked students to compete that on their iPads.
