Fantastic for supplementing lessons.
Community Review for BrainPOP Jr.
My Take
This website is fantastic for providing quick and succinct information to students. I like that these quick fun videos provide the most significant information about a subject. Some of the videos cover difficult concepts and I have found the students are able to quickly pick up concepts covered by Annie and Moby. Quizzes, games, and other activities accompany each video to track student understanding and progress. I use these videos frequently to introduce subjects or as a follow up to a lesson. I am fortunate that my district pays for the service, as the price might be a drawback for some teachers.
How I Use It
BrainPop Jr. is an excellent way to introduce lessons in a variety subject areas. I like using the videos in the area of English and math to introduce new and/or difficult concepts. I also use BrainPop Jr. to provided a review of topics covered in the area of science or social studies. The videos work well in whole class settings, but can be assigned to students for individual work. Each video comes with word walls, games, and activities which really help furthering student learning. The quizzes and writing activities help me know what areas I need to provide reteaching.
There is an educator's page that includes many resources for videos. Teachers can select standards, grade level, and subject to find videos and activities. The educators page offers online and print materials to be used in conjunction with the BrainPop Jr. Videos.
