All in One Tool
Community Review for Book Creator
My Take
Overall, I believe that Book Creator is an all inclusive teaching tool for all grade levels. The functionality of this resource makes it easy for even the little learners to navigate and create meaning pieces of work. This resource has the ability to be used in all content areas and for many different purposes. For example, Book Creator can be used as typing practice, student journal, research, design, etc. Honestly, the only thing I did not like about Book Creator is that if you are not an ambassador, you are limited to the number of books that you can create. As a former "specials" teacher who sees the whole K-5 school, it was easy to run out of books fast and then I would have to get creative with combining classes. Overall, the pros tremendously out-way the cons.
How I Use It
I used this tool with a few of my second grade classes in the past. Students used Book Creator to recap their second grade year. This was printed out for them to take home as a token of their hard work and as a memory of their year. What worked? I was able to demonstrate "how to use" some of the features on the board so that students could visually see how to make a change or how to complete the task. The biggest struggle would be for students who had not already completed a step and were not ready to move on. After giving my students guidance to start this project, it was amazing to see how quickly they go comfortable with the tool and were able to make their pages unique to them and felt comfortable exploring more of the tools that Book Creator has to offer on their own.
