My Take

I really liked this app. Even the free version allows the user to publish to iBooks. Students can take a few minutes to review the tutorial and then give it a try. Users can easily add photos and text. The location and size of the photo/text box can be changed by a quick drag on the object. I like to use this app to inspire 5th grade readers and writers.

How I Use It

I introduced this app to my 5th grade class as a whole group. Students were then asked to research a county and gather facts on location, climate, population, and other basic facts.
After a 45 minuted class devoted to research, each group was given iPads. I had students use the app to create a nonfiction book based on their research. Each group gathered information on a country (its location, climate, customs/traditions, etc). Each student then created a page inputting photos and text. The app also has the option of adding sound. The kids enjoyed this far more than the traditional assessment (creating a written report).
The kids loved seeing their books in the iBook shelf. I found this app to be a great help to inspire reading and writing.
