My Take
Better Lesson is a great teaching tool to build up or increase a repertoire of teaching ideas and activities to assist in differentiation as well as lesson planning. I have found that many of the lessons or even parts of lessons the Master Teachers have uploaded are very useful.for my classes. I also like the community feedback option, in which teachers can ask questions they may have about pieces of the lesson plans.
As with most planning resources, teachers can take what works for their own students or modify as necessary.
How I Use It
Wanting to locate more resources on comparison and contrast, I found an excellent unit plan in the Better Lesson website comparing and contrasting racing in different eras. I am able to use the pieces that would be appropriate for my students, and also differentiate based on student needs. I like the student work examples embedded in the lesson plan, as well as the teacher notes added to explain why this teacher selected the activity and methods in the unit plan. Also included in this plan were the texts used ( from Smithsonian.com) and video clips of racing examples from various time periods. Resources were also included for teachers to assist with student questioning.
