Community Review for Animoto: Video Maker & Editor
My Take
Overall, I would definitely use this product again in my classroom. Animoto is a fun alternative to a traditional powerpoint. Animoto fueled my students' curiosity and passion for this particular project. My students thoroughly enjoyed this tool and were extremely proud of their final product and couldn't wait to share it with their parents and our school community. The only downfall is that if you use the free version, your final video will have an Animoto watermark on it. Aside from that, the free version is the way to go! Also, if I were to do this project again, I would probably use no more than four students per group.
How I Use It
My students used Animoto to create a short public service announcement. Animoto allows students to create movies or photo slideshows. There is a free version that gives you the basic features or you can upgrade and pay for your account. We chose to use the free version and it worked pretty well. My students were very engaged and excited when creating their video. They worked in a small group of four students, shared their photos and videos via email, and used an iPad to create their video. They were able to easily navigate Animoto and upload their photos and videos. They enjoyed the different music options and theme options that the free version of Animoto provides. As with any group project, it can be hard to for students to collaborate, especially when working on one device. It's important to find ways for all students to contribute their ideas and collaborate and equally as important to keep this in mind when determining the size of a group.
