Community Review for Animoto: Video Maker & Editor
My Take
Animota can be a Web 2.0 tool that support the College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards for Speaking and Listening CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.SL.5 Make strategic use of digital media and visual displays of data to express information and enhance understanding of presentations. It was a tech glitch that tripped me up when using the product. As mentioned earlier, I did have have technical difficulty with Stupeflix (a product similar to Animoto).
How I Use It
As a School Library Media Specialist (SLMS), my philosophy is to embed my lesson into the class assignment. In addition to traditional library duties and lessons; I feel it is important to embed Web 2.0 technologies into assignments. I worked with an 8th grade teacher who wanted her students to present information on the holocaust. I worked with the teacher and she created her own Animoto. I gave a lesson to her students….the students could access Animoto and create slide and music background. The tech glitch occurred when the students tried to view their video. The student network did not allow the student to view the finished product. The tech department was unable to rectify the problem. My advice is always run a trial run under a student log in. I was able to use Stupeflix (which does not have a review at this time) with students.
