A quick and easy way for students to make videos.

How I Use It

I've used Animoto in several different ways including making Public Service Announcements for issues we've discussed, creating videos as a part of the the California Writing Project's "Upstanders not Bystanders" digital writing movement, as a means to introduce students to one another at the beginning of the year, and to illustrate poems written by students. The program is fairly easy to use. Students have commented that the app. is easier to use than the website. I have students create free accounts because I have more than 200 and the teacher subscription limits the number of students who you can give the classroom account to, so it's just easier to have students create their own account. When using the free subscription, students are limited to about 30 seconds and the Animoto watermark remains on the video. I do like that students are limited on time for things like PSA's because students need to consider what's most important in the video. The time limit does make it difficult to illustrate poems and longer pieces of writing.
