My Take
My high school students loved this project and website. It was a great way to have students use the Common Core ELA standards and relate it to a career. The website was very easy to use and has a great selection of images and music to meet student's creativity. Students like to create and it was a good alternative to a presentation. No software is needed and no need to teach a presentation software before students can begin creating. A thirty second video is free, I think that is plenty of time for a free service.
How I Use It
I used Animoto.com for a practice of concise writing in a career class. Students had to research a career and create a video showcasing their choice. I gave students a task sheet of required information. Students had to use concise writing to share information especially with the text restrictions. They had to choose appropriate images to compliment their work. Students then embedded the video into our class Moodle. I required students to watch five videos of their choice and answer questions about the career featured in the video. This project was a great alternative to a presentation when time is short.
