Community Review for Animoto: Video Maker & Editor
My Take
Animoto is a website that allows you to upload photos and videos that are then played as a video with effects and music. Text can also be added. Free videos are limited to 30 seconds but teachers can request a code for an educator account that will allow students to make longer videos. A simple video can be made in literally minutes, or students could spend a whole day tweaking the details. There is a music library included or you can upload your own music. Animoto keeps the videos private on its website, only accessible with a link or if they have been shared somewhere else by the creator. Videos can be shared via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or emailed.
How I Use It
I have used Animoto for themes of a book report, presentation of photo-based projects, and scrapbook type projects. Students love the easy set-up to Animoto videos and yet it is easy to see the different between good projects and bad. I have also used Animoto to create a lesson video as a teaser or attention-getter. Animoto is not the best tool for a detailed project with a lot of writing, however. It is better for photo and video.
