Using this tool for screening students in Reading was helpful in that I got results by the next day. This gave me the opportunity to set up instructional plans for my kids that is catered to their needs. The test takes less than 15 minutes. My kids from upper elementary could easily navigate the tool on their own. I could download the reports into editable spreadsheets to make it easier for me to group students. The staff quickly answer my questions and provide useful support.

Exactly what Teachers Have Been Searching For

Conducting running records is a very important part of learning about a child's reading journey. However, trying to find a quiet space where the process won't get interrupted, releasing a qualified teacher to conduct the assessment, and holding calibration meetings to get reliable data all take a tremendous amount of time . The ability to administer a running record that eliminates the loss of instructional time and provides 100% consistency across the whole district is a dream come true. This product is so well built it can even be used during distance learning. Students simply need an internet connected device that can capture audio recordings. Once logged in they are presented with fully developed instructions before embarking on reading a story aloud (with pictures for younger children), completing comprehension questions, and providing a retell either in writing or by voice recording. From there the teacher will get a fully scored running record that pinpoints errors as well as comprehension questions tied to common core standards is fantastic and top have all of it recorded to return to as needed is just the icing on the cake Add to that the recording of the students retell can often prove a great insight into where the student is struggling with comprehension. Literably provides leverageable data that takes just a few minutes for the student to complete and the data collection does not place the heavy burden on the teacher, he or she simply needs to review the fully scored running record and score the retell. Literably is the complete package.

Running Record Timesaver

As an assessment tool I appreciate the speed and ease of using Literably. It's nice to have the student's oral reading recorded so that I, or parents, can play it back at any time, as well as see reading errors marked. The same holds true to the ability to refer back to the retell. Literably results are comparable to those I get when giving a running record myself, so I trust the data from this software. It would be helpful if Literably changed the log-in method for students. Currently students need to enter their teacher's email address and then select their name from a drop-down list. For younger students correctly typing all the letters and symbols in an email is a challenge. In addition, there are only two books at each level (one fiction and one non-fiction). It would be helpful to have two of each so that if a student needs to repeat a level they can read a text they haven't been exposed to before.

Saves our teaching dozens of hours in progress monitoring assessments!

While the interface could be a little better, we find the value-add to far outweigh any features it's currently missing. Our school has an external F&P tracking tool, so we don't need anything from Literably in terms of analyzing data.

Monitoring students’ reading fluency and accuracy made easy!

This resource is not a teaching tool per se. It is simply a tool to help effectively monitor students reading fluency and accuracy. Its richness lies in the fact that teachers gain back lots of time by passing on the scoring and analyzing to the Literably website. Teachers can still expect timely results (scores are returned within one day) and quickly adjust instruction to better meet students’ individual needs.

Quick snap shot of students' fluency

For students that need a little extra practice in reading fluency, this is a simple, easy to use product. Overall, this product is limited in what it offers. I like that students record themselves reading and can listen to that recording. A link is provided for each student's reading that can be shared with parents, admin, etc... I also like that the instructor can choose to include comprehension questions or not. The free version is limited to 15 recordings a month. Although each story is leveled appropriately, there are only a few options which are not as engaging as they could be.
