Complaints have been made to the Federal Trade Commision because this product "exploits children" and the educational value has been fraudulently advertised.
I think this math app provides limited educational benefit and is potentially harmful to student due to its exploitative practices. Therefore, I recommend it be removed from the school setting.

Students spend more time messing with their avatar than doing actual math.
I don't like that it is differentiated by student completion and scores and not assigned work by the teacher. Maybe there is a way to change this setting? The product seems best for teachers who are going to have all students on at the same time while she babysits that they are dong what they are supposed to be doing. LAME!

Great to keep kids practicing their math skills!
I love Prodigy! I think it would be fantastic for elementary students to keep them practicing their basic math skills and having fun at the same time. I love that each question has a hint if you need it and the ability to draw or use digital manipulatives such as place value blocks. That is amazing for kids who just need a small push to figure out the problem. The ability to assign certain topics to students and monitor their progress is amazing because you can see how your class is doing without having to grade homework. Students are able to answer questions that use higher-order thinking skills such as analyzing or synthesizing alongside simpler ones seamlessly. This fits into the modification level of SAMR and gives the student instant feedback. Prodigy is fantastic!

Very interactive and engaging! However, this does not seem fit to help teach. This is more for review than learning.
This website's beneficial part was its ability to engage students who favor playing video games than reviewing their work at home. It is also nice that they give students hints and describes all options when necessary. However, this website is definitely for reviewing rather than learning.

Fun, but not for assignments
Overall, I believe that it is good for review, but on your own. It doesn't have enough structure nor math to assign for homework or classwork. It functions best as review and something for kids to do when they have extra time on their hands.

DON’T pay for the premium membership
Not a great teaching tool. Too much game not enough learning. My kids averaged a couple questions per minute. With Khan they were doing a multiple of that. Plus the Khan videos are super helpful

Fun and engaging math review tool.
I like the tool and would recommend for math practice up to grades 3/4. After that the gameplay is a bit childish for kids.

Amount of Actual Math Practice
We love that students are so engaged. Almost every student gets involved quickly and can begin working for great lengths of time. While the tasks aren't always easy, I have found that students are not getting enough practice time. With time constraints in the core content areas of our instruction, we have no time to waste on sites that don't give us the highest output. We only recommend this for teachers to use during inside recess or as an extension type of activity.
