Infinitely Useful Tool for the classroom that is easy to use and can be used in a VARIETY of ways.
I LOVE this product!!
What I like:
1. can be shared with other teachers
2. has access to LOTS of materials other teachers have already created and those materials can be copied and tweaked
3. works for AP, ESL, Special Ed, and Gen Ed students
How could it serve kids and/or your teaching better?
I use it for review activities (especially for standardized testing and in my AP classes I use it as a review for material we covered in the first semester). The students at ALL levels perform significantly better after having played the games. I also LOVE it for tests because it gives FANTASTIC feedback and it can shuffle questions AND answers!
I've used it for SEVERAL years and the only constructive criticism is that it's not easy to import test questions from a test generator (you have to copy and paste) BUT that is a minor inconvenience compared to all the positive things it does.

Great for Surveys
I don't use Quia.com to teach new material, but as a place where my students can review material we have already learned in class. I like the fact that there are already game and quizzes my students can use.

Excellent website to keep students engaged in the learning process. Many great game and activities for all subject areas.
I think quia is a great teaching tool to use for all subject areas. The ready made games, quizzes, and activities are easily available and accessible. In creating your own personal games, it takes a little time, but the benefits are great.

A wonderful site to create games and quizzes specific to a subject or topic
Quia offer free practice games and quizzes developed by other educators. The games are varied and the graphics are good. If you want to create you have to pay a fee, but you can search by textbook or topic, so if you have a book someone else has or is using, you will have similar teaching skills sets to work from.
I used to have my kids do their spelling quizzes and then play games to learn concepts and reinforce what they were learning. It kept track and allowed me to have "grading-less" grading.

Quia - Create educational games and quizzes
Provides the teacher with a tool to be able to create many different types of activities for the students to use. Some of these activities are very engaging towards the kids... i.e. Rags to Riches activity. Activities are easy to create, though for the most part are teacher created, not student created.
With quizzes and even activities, results can be recorded within a gradebook for review. One of the difficulties that I found with the gradebook was sorting through all of the information and knowing which quiz is each.

QUIA.com - yet one more option to give kids who want extra practice!
QUIA.com is one of the websites I visit a few times with my students in class, and then leave up to them as an additional resource should they want more time to practice at home, especially in a game-driven context. My reaction to it is that it's A) difficult to set up (for not all students, but some); B) somewhat dated; C) not many students' favorite website -- yet it is for others; D) because it is a user-produced database it often contains misinformation which frustrates students to no end. Still, one more tool to have in your arsenal of "ways you can practice ...".
