Easy to use and set up blog.
I have used Blogger for years for both blogs for myself and for students blogs. I like that you can be the administer of many blogs and it is fairly easy to keep track of them all using the dashboard. I have run into some problems with the students using it when our school had an old browser, but those problems seem to have been resolved when we upgraded browsers.

Google's blog sites with templates for relatively easy set up for students.
Blogger is a template based blog program in the Google applications. It is free and has a limited number of templates for students to design their own site. It is not terribly intuitive for making changes or adding elements for first time blog creators. Blogs may be share universally, kept private, or shared with only specified email accounts.
