This can be a useful tool
Dropbox can be a very useful tool if you do not have another mechanism through which materials can be shared and dropped off. If the dropbox is open to a community of learners, they can deposit files within it. The space can be an issue, especially if you have large files such as pictures and such.

Quickly eliminates need for flash drives and ensures that never again will I leave my house without a necessary document.
Dropbox is fantastic. It is a one stop drop for all of my files. My students can also easily collect and tote around all of their documents. This is quickly becoming an essential tool for digital creation as my students can easily move raw footage and images between home and school.

I love that I was able to upload my files and edit from anywhere. No more misplaced flashdrives.
It is great for group work so students can work in groups from home. I like it, but my class doesn't do a lot of group work. Still playing with it.

This app has revolutionized the way I use videos in the classroom.
Our school uses a Barracuda filter that blocks our access to a number of different websites that have validity in the classroom, especially YouTube. Often times, I discover completely usable and engaging videos on the site with great aspirations to use them in my instruction. Unfortunately, the aforementioned filter denies me access to such great videos on our school's server. This is where Dropbox comes into play.
Using a video converter, by which I can convert a YouTube link into a playable format (i.e. Quicktime or Windows Media Player), I save the video file to my computer. Because the file is commonly too large to send via email, Dropbox does all the work for me. By processing the video file through Dropbox, I can choose to (a) stream the video on my classroom's Smartboard through the Dropbox app or (b) download the video file for use on my computer at school.
For students who produce PowerPoint presentations or large video files that are much too large to send via email, they can use Dropbox in much the same manner. All the app requires is an email account and password for its use.

Wonderful way to keep me organized...and my students!
Dropbox doesn't really teach students content, but it's much more important. It teaches them organization! I loved running to my Dropbox from home, work, or at meetings to find all of the information I need saved somewhere.
My students also liked that I could send something from Dropbox to them that they lost or misplaced. It's a great way to teach them how to keep things organized and when technology goes down, they haven't completely lost whatever they were working on! Double score!

Dropbox has come a long way. At first, I did not like it at all but it's been improved and I don't think I could live without it now! All my files are in one place and I can access from school, home and on my iPad & iPhone!
I like that I can access all my lesson plans, memos etc. no matter where I am.

Cloud storage but with complications
Dropbox is an online substitute for a flashdrive or saving documents, pictures, anything to your computer. By saving to Dropbox, you can access all of those files from any computer. When you sign up, you do get limited free space, and in order to get more space, you have to pay (a lot) or can invite others to join. Dropbox is nice because you can have a desktop icon on both your school computer and your work computer and when you save a document in one location, it will automatically update in the other location. I no longer had to carry a flash drive between school and home. I loved my dropbox until I switched to another school district. At my new district, we are not allowed to put anything on our desktops, so Dropbox doesn't seemlessly upload like I liked. My dropbox also got so full, it was jammed stuck for many months which was incredibly frustrating. There was no one to contact to remedy the problem. It was perpetually syncing. I no longer use it. Now, it just makes so much more sense to use Google drive. Everything automatically syncs, you don't have to download shortcuts to your desktop, and you can collaborate.

A useful tool to store and share files and pictures.
Dropbox is a great utility to hold and share files you want to make available to others, from individuals to groups large and small. Although it does not really 'teach' students, it makes available resources that you want them to have easy access to. The sharing folder feature can help teachers and students share resources. The free version offers 2GB of space, which is adequate for most needs, unless you are sharing lots of pictures or videos.
