This is a great tool for students to sharpen their math skills at any level, working at their own pace.
This application gives a great explanation when the student does not get the question correct. The challenging part is making sure the student actually reads the explanation. I also like that they offer different grade levels. This really helps if you have an advanced or slow learner. It also has a great tracking system, which allows you to hold the students accountable for their work.

A great way for students to practice and for teachers to assess growth
IXL is a great resource to give students the extra practice without them feeling like they're doing worksheets. The site also gives the students feedback on their answers if they're wrong, explaining the correct answer and how to get it. I also like the wide range of practice problems that are available to the students. I absolutely hate that it costs so much, because it makes me want to find other resources besides IXL.

A way to strengthen math skills in a fun and engaging manner.
IXL is a great tech tool to use with students. The teacher has the ability to access multiple grade levels to individualize for the varying student levels. This allows students to practice needed math skills and to challenge themselves with higher level skills as well. This can be used as homework since the students can access it from home once they have their user name and password. The skills to practice can be teacher directed or student directed. The kids earn stickers as they complete a section. These simple stickers earned are motivating for younger students. Teachers can track the progress of students for their own use and to communicate with parents. There are colorful visuals for the math problems. The skills are aligned to standards. The reason I did not give a rating of five stars is because there needs to be more access to directions being read to students. It would be helpful if the directions and questions were available to listen to in multiple languages to meet the needs of ELL and lower literacy students.

Students are engaged and motivated while practicing math skills.
IXL is a resource to supplement learning that occurs in the classroom. Students access IXL through any internet connection; from school or at home. IXL is engaging and motivating as the students practice math skills they are earning stickers for their "reward sheet." IXL will read story problems for the young learners who can't yet read so a parent or teacher does not have to sit and give one on one attention or instruction to a child. Once the roster is set, reports are sent to the teacher and parents providing feedback of student's mastered skills, skills that need to be worked on, and how often and when the student are on IXL.

Great website!
This website is a great tool that students can use independently to reinforce skills at their level. As the teacher, you can look on standards as well as grade levels and children can complete tasks which are appropriate to their grade level or skill. This site allows for differentiation as children can work within standards or their grade level. This website is easily navigated by both students, teachers, and parents.

Great for practice if students are motivated.
It is great to give motivated students extra practice, however it isn't so great for reteaching. When students miss a question, it explains what the did wrong, but I found that only the motivated students took time to pay attention to it.

I liked how I was able to choose certain areas for the children to work on.
Because an example came up as the cursor was placed over an item in the menu, the children were able to pick w/o reading problems they wanted to try. I could make recommendations to them and their parents for extra practice in areas at home. The children loved getting the classroom certificates for our collective work. I like the explanations of wrong answers.

IXL 3rd Grade – Estimation & Rounding – L.1-L.7
The IXL 3rd grade Estimation & Rounding (L.1-L.7) activities provide a nice range of practice for the skills of rounding, rounding money amounts, rounding puzzles, solving inequalities using estimation, estimating sums, estimating products and estimating quotients.
The exercises are drill and practice activities. Students can keep track of their progress and time to complete questions within each skill. IXL generates a SmartScore based on an algorithm that gives students a measure of mastery level for that skill. The more correct responses done quickly increases the SmartScore.
The drill and practice nature of the exercises may become monotonous for students and that is where the awards area is nice. The awards area has squares with different challenges hidden underneath. When students meet the challenge, they reveal a virtual prize.
