Free but robust tool that students can use to explore the world
Google Earth can have numerous applications in the classroom. It can easily integrate with social studies units, allowing students to "travel" to different parts of the world and have a first-person look at new sites and landmarks. It can also be used to have students practice math tasks, such as calculating the mileage between different locations or the size of different places and students can use their explorations in Google Earth as the starting point for both fiction and non-fiction stories about different parts of the world.
