Irresistible characters explain content through humorous dialog
The students absolutely love the Brain Pop videos! The characters in the videos draw the students in with their wisdom and charm. The characters in the videos answer actual questions written to them by real students about a wide variety of topics. Their instruction is the farthest thing from a boring, complicated, or intimidating lecture. Rather, students learn about the topics by listening to the characters' humorous dialog regarding the topic. This presentation method makes students feel like they are listening to a conversation between their friends. The characters use of everyday language and common sense reasoning which enables all learners to understand the topic. The videos are divided by content area (math, science, art, etc...). The topics vary from biographies of historical figures in the field to information about key concepts. The videos can be accessed through the website or an mobile application.

Hooked on Learning...
You know what BrainPOP says: "the more you know, the more you know." This is a great one to have on the iPads. We have the BrainPOP Featured Movie and BrainPOP Jr. Movie of the Week on our iPads. It's great to see kids so engaged and so hooked on learning more about topics. What a way to have students build their general fund of knowledge!

Explore science and social studies topics through short, informative videos
These videos explain a variety of topics in a step-by-step format that is easy to follow. Some of my students found them interesting, others were not engaged by the format. I wish there were a way to sort for specific videos. The featured video format made this app best for enrichment.

Great movies with related activities
I like using the content-specific movies as a whole class activity. There are hundreds of short movies with great explanations of concepts and child-friendly animations. Each movie has an assortment of related activities including quizzes, jokes, activities, as well as drawing and writing ideas. Many can be used on student computers (if you have a school subscription) or on an interactive whiteboard or projector. Many can also be printed. Students can learn about concepts and then use a graphic organizer individually or in a group.

Content rich movies
Brain Pop has hundreds of short movies in seven subject areas: Science, Social Studies, English, Math, Arts & Music, Health and Tech. "Today's Featured Movie" is a short, content rich animation with human and robot narrators, Tim and Moby. The movies give good explanations and definitions of concepts. There are full-screen and closed-captioning options. Movies may be paused for discussion. Each movie is accompanied by a quiz which can be taken in multiple formats including using student response systems. I just viewed "Underground Railroad," in which misconceptions are addressed and explanations are illustrated. Helpful maps, graphics, vocabulary and examples give students lots of contextual information.
