Drills in a fun way
Students enjoy earning rice, and they like that the rice they earn symbolizes a donation to the World Food Programme. We mainly use the English Vocabulary and Grammar sections, though some students choose to explore other subjects on their own time. It does get repetitive after a while, but most students enjoy using it to practice vocabulary from time to time.

Great way to review or simply expose students to new vocabulary.
I introduced Free Rice to my English 10 and English 11 students, and they loved it. The website has expanded quite a bit from it's original game, allowing students to choose their starting level so that the questions were challenging enough to meet each individual student's needs. There is also an option to change languages and/or subjects making the site a valuable review tool for classes across the curriculum. The best part, my students felt empowered not only as they answered questions correctly, but also as they saw their "rice bowl" being filled to help people in disadvantaged countries.

Fun activity to use once in a while
Kids love watching the rice add up in their bowl! However, it starts very basic, allowing students to fly through, but then when it does get hard, many of my students just click a choice and don't use the opportunity to actually learn the vocabulary.

Good trivia web app
The website's pop quiz is very educational and you can learn a lot of trivia just by answering those questions. I'm not sure whether it really donates food to the World Food Programme but it sure raises awareness about food shortage in poor countries.
