Excellent Independent learning tool that with recent changes now allows teachers to set up and monitor the progress of students through the pathway set up by the teacher.
As a teaching tool it allows students to move through at their own pace; it extends class learning and the badge system allows students to target a class league table. There are also opportunities for students to take on other programming languages or website scripting languages to stretch themselves.

Great website to use with your class.
A grading or scoring portion would be great. I will use it again I think, it needs the ability to see where they get stuck or have trouble. You are able to see what they do. I wish they had a way of assigning work in a more straightorward manner.

Excellent tutorials and resource for students to explore a variety of coding languages.
As a teaching tool, Codecademy excels as a resource that supports the teacher during programming challenges. The supports and tutorials available for students enhance learning opportunities and permit discovery by students versus feeding the student a line of code and expecting them to replicate it. Remove the heavy text in the tutorials and this web application will serve all students.

Free intro. to Webdev best for 6th-12th grades, individualized
Good free intro. to web skills (HTML, CSS), ok for Javascript. CodeAcademy has some good modules, but some lessons are not very intuitive. It also doesn't allow for much individual creativity. It requires online access and a login (unlike Scratch and Processing, which you can download) but it does set cookies once you are logged in so that student progress is saved. Lessons are occasionally buggy, but since it is free and has lots of badges for incentivization, it's still a worthwhile tool for introducing kids to webdev and programming.

Pretty decent HTML and CSS lessons for individual students
Codecademy is great for those who have a genuine interest in learning to code or work well independently. I found it difficult to use with a class of 20 high school students. There is no way to set up a teacher or administrator account for a group of users. My impression is that Codecademy was designed more for individuals who wanted to learn on their own, which is great, but that makes it a little less than ideal for a regular class. If offered as an after school club of highly-motivated or interested kids, I think it would work well.

After-school curriculum designed to teach students programming
Overall, I think Codecademy is a great learning tool for anyone wanting to learn code. An email is required for set up, and the website does contain a lot of text, so it may not be suitable for early elementary students or struggling readers. One feature that could help would be to add an audio (text-to-speech) feature in the instructions and feedback. I like that the lessons have clear objectives and increase in difficulty based on previous concepts learned. I like the feedback given when an answer is wrong, and the hints for those who are stuck.

Great way for students to be introduced to coding.
This is a great tool for teaching basic programming. It does require good reading skills and writing skills and the ability to follow a format. It's a nice way to prepare students to enter the computer field and explore technology further.

Great Site, You Need to Make it "Real"
I am not a programmer but used this website to introduce my 5th grade students to programming. The website is not super engaging for students/young kids. They could grasp the concepts but just weren't super into it, they did it, and liked it at times, but weren't clamoring each day to get back at it. That being said, if you can find a student who gets really engaged and loves it, this is something a student could take home or take with them over the summer and literally teach themselves to code. Which is why I introduced them to it, and hope some of them keep doing it in the future.
