Scratch Makes Programming Elementary!
Scratch is a drag and drop programming software where students can create almost anything! This was a free download for years but is now available to use online. It is a wonderful website to support STEAM because students can be creative while developing logic and problem solving skills .Students can create their own interactive games, stories, interactive greeting cards, and so much more. The HELP features are amazing. The site has great examples and starter projects to get your students using the site quickly. There are Scratch cards with step by step easy to follow instructions, tutorial videos, getting started guides, and plenty of examples. Students can collaborate with others and receive feedback on the programs they create. They can even remix programs on the site. If you want kids to be able to use their creativity, problem solving, and collaborative skills and apply it to almost any subject area, Scratch is the place to visit!

Students are using this site with Makey Makey circuits boards do some amazing things!
Scratch is easy to use, and combining it with the Makey Makey has produced some amazing projects. It's been great to see the kids share their learning with each other; definitely a tool that allows a teacher to become a 'guide on the side' and allow learning to happen, rather than directing all steps.

An awesome, Easy to use program that helps students develop orders of operation, allows creativity, and ultimately is FUN!
I have used scratch before, and still really enjoy it's capabilities. Scratch is an animation program that teaches students (in a round about way) Coding. The graphics User Interface is very straight forward, the options students have to make their own creations, and the amount of fun they have using Scratch is phenomenal. Students have made simple walking animations, Games that they play together and against one another, videos, PSA's and more. Simple to import files/photos/sounds, Deep enough to get complex orders of operation and functions, but yet simple enough elementary through High School students use it.

Excellent resource for teaching logic and problem solving.
Scratch is an excellent platform for students to create and code, allowing students to move seamlessly between basic movement and highly advanced computer programing concepts (such as if then statements, variables, operations, and more). Though I initially shied away from introducing scratch to my classes, after seeing their excitement participating in the Hour of Code I knew this was a "must add" curricular piece. With abundant tutorials, excellent teaching resources, and limitless potential, Scratch is a program that can reach multiple levels of learners and allow each to experience success. Don't be overwhelmed, start small and learn alongside your students!

Students get very absorbed in their projects and it reinforces many math skills while allowing students to show their creativity. Scratch 2.0 is web based making it very easy to use with students. There is also an offline version available.

Lots of great resources and opportunities for beginner programmers
I love this. In the beginning, the commands can be a bit overwhelming for new users and version changes have caused some lessons to use commands that have different names.

Scratch...Where All Students Can Learn to Create
Scratch can be used anywhere from Kindergarten up to college grad. level. All ability levels can be challenged. Scratch is great for getting students to understand how algorithms and programming works. They get to use their own creativity and complete projects with the teacher as a facilitator. This is my favorite unit to teach because you can really see how the students start with zero knowledge and build upon it until they are creating beautiful finished products.
