Community Review for Unruly Splats
My Take
They are a great resource for me as a tech teacher. I think other teachers are hesitant to use them because of the lack of knowledge about coding, but you don't have to be a programmer to use them. I think the thing I would like to see improved is to make them rechargeable. If a Splat stops being connected by Bluetooth, you're never quite sure if it is the connection or if the batteries are going out. Their app is really improved as of this fall and much more user friendly for teachers to set up classes and assign logins. All in all, I think the Unruly Splats crew is awesome and so is their product!
How I Use It
I have used Splats for numerous lessons. I have also worked with the Unruly Splats team on a number of projects. Their customer service is above and beyond exceptional. I have used the preprogrammed Splats games for a physical activity break many times, but I have also taught some basic block coding skills with them. We did their Hour of Code program in 2020, which was a easy curriculum to follow. They are working on cross-curricular uses for Splats and constantly innovating new ways to use them. I love the idea that when you create a project with Splats, you can use the physical floor buttons to seen your creation in action.
