Compassion Project, great for older kids as well!
Community Review for The Compassion Project
My Take
I really like all EVERFI activities. I use them for all my classes 6-8th grades. They are great because they are self paced. Lessons build on each other. Everfi offers lesson plans for teachers but also offers materials to have class discussions. the modules offer mini lessons that then the teachers can build on. These can be assigned whenever needed, especially if a teacher will be absent and needs sub plans. The program provides the teachers with pre and post assessments. In my areas of study, and standards based grading, these helped a lot!
How I Use It
As a health educator and Family Consumer Science teacher, I used this as an introduction to my class as well as an introduction to our unit on relationships and interpersonal skills. The students worked at their own pace, even though i assigned specific modules/lessons. The support materials allowed me to review and support their learning, then assign another lesson/module, and so on. The use of headphones helped keep the students focused, the reading of the text helped the students who struggled with reading. the ONLY complaints some students had is that they said they could read faster than the reader. I suggested they mute the volume. I also know that students try to skip through and just answer the questions, so the program paced them. Also, the opportunity to retake assessments was great because those that maybe didn't take it seriously realized they needed the information!
