My Take
I think this could be a powerful tool for teaching ELLs, but I have concerns about the ease of use for my elementary students. The play mode is simple to use, but the real rigor of the tool lies in its creation (edit) mode. I had to read the lengthy user manual to understand how to use the app. This app needs more intuitive navigation tools to make it more easily usable by younger children.
How I Use It
I plan to use this app specifically with my ELLs to help them practice their vocabulary and strengthen their academic language skills. I will create an scene (image) related to the unit I am teaching and then project the image during whole group instruction. After introducing the scene (image), I will have students work in pairs with their ipads to label the scene with their new vocabulary words. Students will then record their voices reading each vocabulary word aloud. Over the course of a week, students will create their own scene using a drawing tool and then write a short story using their vocabulary words. Students will then use the app to capture their scenes and their voice recordings of their short stories.
