Super Easy and Engaging Interactive Presentations
Community Review for Pear Deck
My Take
It is so nice to have Google integration to open new presentations and to gather student results. There are other interactive tools to present to students. But, I find Pear Deck one of the easiest and most intuitive tools out there. Something to keep in mind is that you are only able to have 30 concurrent users at the same time. There are also limits in how many uploads you can have in the free version.
How I Use It
Peardeck is a great way to quickly assess student learning using interactive presentations. Teachers can present information to students while students interact by either reading the slide, selecting a multiple choice answer, or typing a free response. With the premium account, teachers can also create questions where students can draw or drag content. The best part about Pear Deck is that it integrates with Google Drive. That includes exporting grading statistics to Google Spreadsheets.
Most recently, I used Pear Deck as a way to scaffold information with pairs before launching into a Philosophical Chairs activity. Students were guided by the presentation to find evidence they plan on using and type in their thinking. The lesson went so smoothly and students were really engaged. Students were dying to see results and discuss what their classmates thought. While presenting you can select if you want to present responses (they come in anonymously during presentations). Students love seeing what their classmates are thinking!
