My Take
This is a great tool for finding relevant, current events articles that can enrich existing units. They require little prep and can be used quickly. They are great for enrichment and for independent work, but they aren't full lessons and I wouldn't use them in lieu of a lesson.
How I Use It
I use this resource in four main ways: 1. I use it to create informational text sets to coordinate with novels, 2. I use it to create assignments for my students when I am absent, 3. I can use it for extra credit/remediation/formative assessment with my students. You can create text sets and share them with students or you can download and print texts as needed (which is how I use the resource). There are four questions, aligned to the common core state standards, that are included with the text, as are the answers. I have students read the article, answer the questions and do a writing assignment based on the articles that they have read. The other thing is that each article is available in a variety of reading levels. I am able to differentiate the texts based on the needs of individual students.
