My Take
I love using Newsela - I can assign articles per group or individually. I can also put articles in the students binder and then allow them to pick articles they would like to read from there. Students can also independently pick articles by their interest level. I like that students are reading the same article but at the level that is appropriate for them. The comprehension questions are varied and very much aligned with common core standards
How I Use It
I use this to differentiate learning for students by assigning the same article but at different reading levels. The articles are on current issues in varying categories with great colored pictures. I can find articles that compliment learning that is going on in my classroom in many different subjects. Articles also have comprehension questions that I can use to check for understanding. Students can also start at one reading lexile level, take a quiz and then try to challenge themselves by stepping the reading lecile up on the same article.
