My Take

It's a great tool because a class always spans many levels of readers. They would all get the same basic content but at differing degrees of complexity. There were also quizzes for some articles that i could assign, and the answers were immediately accessible on my teacher Newela page. The teacher page also shows you who opened the articles. I liked that I could assign the articles, which curtails student searching and perhaps coming across articles that may not be a good fit for their grade level. The topics that the articles covered were current, and most were interesting to my students. The only drawback was that sometimes the quizzes seemed to high-level for my fourth graders.

How I Use It

I used Newsela as a tool to help differentiate the reading level of non-fiction articles. This helped me to meet my students where they are as readers, and increase their comprehension.I would assign certain articles for students to read, individually or with a partner, and I could set the reading level to one that was accessible for those children.
